It’s been nine years since God set me on this path teaching children’s art classes as a small business owner. For a great majority of this time, I never see the impact I’ve had on kids once they leave my class. It’s rare to hear back from a parent saying I made a difference in their kid’s lives, but every once in a while, it does happen.
I recently taught an extended Beginner Kids Comic Workshop course at a school in western St. Louis. This parent follows my NEWSLETTER, and earlier this year reached out to me to teach my classes at her daughter’s school. One thing led to another and I’m in and teaching, and this past Wednesday was the last session of the workshop. It was a great group of kids and I plan to come back for more classes.
The same parent who initially contacted me emailed me recently…
I wanted to thank you for a really great class this year. After two years without any art classes, my daughter forgot that she liked drawing and making comics. She was even upset with me for signing her up to your class when I told her about it. But as the weeks passed I could see how much fun she was having and how much she was improving in her work and abilities. She now likes drawing again and really wants to take more classes and get back into art. This is all you.
Every night at dinner we each say one bad thing, one ok thing and one good thing that happened today. On Wednesday when she told us about her day she said that today’s bad thing was that your class ended.
So I want to say thank you so much for your great class and good work. I hope you have more classes in the future that she can take. I also hope you’ll have more classes at our school.
Best, Kelly
Thank you so much for the kind words Kelly, it means a lot to me as I never know if what I do makes a difference or not. Every once in a while, God lets you know exactly why you went where you did because there’s a specific person there you needed to make a difference to. Thanks for reading!
