Q: Can we just come for any class or do we have to do the entire six weeks?
A: This Comic Workshop is designed as a full six week course, so walk ins for any individual week are not permitted.

Q: Do I have to sign up online or can I just walk in and do it the day of?
A: Space is limited so I really need you to sign up online to reserve your slot. There may not be any seats left if sign up the day of!

Q: But I have a child younger than 8 who wants to participate! Can they take this?
A: Unfortunately what I teach will go over kids heads in the Beginner class, but be on the look out for my Junior Kids Comic Workshop that is designed for 6-7 year olds!

Q: But I have a child older than 12 who wants to participate! Can they take this?
A: Sure! Having 12 years as the cut off is really arbitrary and is based on the range I think would get the most out of this course. If you feel your kid will benefit from learning the basics then by all means sign up!

Q: What happens if you are fully booked for a class?
A: Sign up anyway and I will add you to the wait list in case someone drops out. If enough people sign the wait list then I will get another class going ASAP!

Q: What are your payment options?
A: I use SQUARE for all credit card transactions. It’s just like Paypal (but better) and is perfectly secure! I will also accept cash only on the first day of the course. No checks please! The course must be paid in full before the it begins or at the first class. No late payments will be accepted! Once you register, I will send you an invoice through Square for payment.

Q: Do I have to stay with my child during class or can I leave?
A: You do not have to stay. The sign up form will have space for an emergency contact number in case I need to get a hold of you. Just keep your phone handy and make sure to get back when the class ends!

Q: Do you allow special needs kids to participate?
A: Yes but it depends on the need. My son has high functioning autism, so I am more versed in the autistic world than anything else. If the child has more severe needs, then the parent or guardian must be present with the child to help them through class because I won’t be able to devote a lot of time to individual children.

Q: What if we have to miss a week, do we get a refund for that week?
A: No refunds will be given for weeks missed, sorry.

Q: But what if YOU miss a week?
A: In the event that I am sick or some other situation comes up and I cannot conduct class that day, I will first try to reschedule the class, if that does not succeed then you WILL get reimbursed for the class missed. I have no intention of missing any classes, however, but wanted this question here just in case it was on your mind.

Q: Will you send out an email reminding me of the class every week?
A: No I won’t, but from time to time I will send out an email to everyone because of various things that may come up with the class.

Q: What experience do you have running this class?
A: I have been an artist almost my entire life, but since 2010 I have focused my artistic skills on creating comic books. I am the creator of three kid friendly comics, FRIK (10+), HOLES IN IT (ALL AGES), and THE NORMLINGS (ALL AGES), and for a couple of years have been selling those comics online and at comic conventions. This all started in April 2015 when I taught a basic condensed version of this course to four 3rd grade classes at my son’s school during art class, and I’ve expanded the course and have been teaching it on my own ever since!

Q: Will my child bring things home every week to show me?
A: That depends on the class. For anything shorter than six weeks your child will bring things home every day. With the full six week class, I will keep the majority of each week’s work, but at the end of the course I will put everything into presentation binders along with an award certificate so your child has a keepsake from the class.

Q: Will there be homework?
A: Just once! Sometime between ween four and five, they have to work on a story idea for their final six panel comic at the end of the course.

Q: Do you plan to hold this course in other parts of town?
A: Yes! You can sign up for my NEWSLETTER and I will give announcements and on the main page of this site! You can also CONTACT ME requesting a specific area of town.

Did I miss a question?
Please CONTACT ME if there’s something I didn’t cover! Thanks!
